Welcome to the official website of Winnipeg Alternative Hockey! The members of
the WAH are a collection of Ball and Floor hockey players who want the dry-land hockey experience without the pressures
of a super competitive environment, rather with the value of a fun and family setting. All games are played at the
Sportsplex Arena (soon to be changed to the Jack Morton Arena) located at 55 Duncan Street.
The building is quite old, but clean and well maintained. Before the onset of the 2006 Summer Season, the floor was repainted,
the old boards were covered with new plastic sheeting and dashers, and we received two brand new, professional quality
regulation hockey nets. The Sportsplex Arena is the only licensed and air-conditioned arena in Winnipeg dedicated to
dry-land hockey and associated sports.
Although not perfect, the WAH strives to present non-overly aggressive games in a laid back and casual
atmosphere. The focus is on fun and, yes, this could be termed a "beer league". A famous remark describes the general
attitude of most of the members said: "If you do not know how to have fun, what the f--k are you doing here?". In essence,
we are just playing road hockey like any 8 year old Canadian kid, just with us we are playing under a roof with a couple
of supervisors. Win or lose the beer is always cold after the game!
In closing, if the attitude appeals to you or if this website looks interesting, then check us out one
night! E-mail, or call the arena to get more info at 204-943-1162. We do not offer contracts or scouting reports to the big
leagues, just fun recreational hockey and some friendship. And beer, don't forget the beer!
